4.0 Swap

I have a 93 ford ranger 3.0 5 spd 4x4 and i'am getting ready to swap the axles and motor From an exploerer(1993 Explorer 4.0 auto 4x4), I was wondering since both the 3.0 and 4.0 used an M5OD-R1 5 spd tranny if i could use my 3.0 tranny on the 4.0 and use the 3.0 flywheel on the 4.0. If not what do I need?Where do you find the parts? Also, can i still use the 4.0 computer that is for an automatic if i swap in a 5 spd tranny behind it?

Thanks for any replies and help.

No, the 3.0 and 4.0 have different bell housing fitments, so the transmissions are not interchangeable. The ecu for the auto will not be happy in a stick vehicle, either.

Early M5OD had bellhousing that you can swap too. Just find bellhousing for 4.0 ore 2.8/2.9 V6 and unstall.

3.0 engine in explorer is very rare. I sow it twice, but the last time it was engine of Aero in explorer. The problem was that tranny of explorer was bad, but owner had wrecked aero, he wanted to swap trannies, but bellhousings were different, he wanted to swap bellhousings, but ATF pumps were different too, he wanted to swap pumps, but bolts holding pump on were different (6mm and 8 mm) and as result he swaped engines, trannies, ECUs and wiering.... SO try to look for tranny for 4.0.

yea, i understand that to put a 5 speed in, an auto computer wont work being it is an electronic tranny...but is the ECM for JUST the 4.0L (in the explorer) partial only to an auto, or is there actually a seperate computer for the trans also...

just to clarify, here is what i am working with:
1993 Ford Ranger Splash 4x4
3.0L 5 SPD

-AND-

1993 Ford Explorer Xlt 4x4
4.0L Auto

the swap that my brother-in-law (who posted this thread) wants to accomplish is getting the 4.0, and the axles FROM the EXPLORER, TO the RANGER...lol, at this point i am a bit confused and i feel that this may be due in part to my brother-in-law's crappy computer/literacy skills. i am not tryin to be a *****, just wanting to set things straight. i guess all i am really after is this much; what all do i need to get a 4.0, and a 5 speed trans into a 1993 ranger...i mean everything down to the wires...thanks again and sorry for any confusion (i am a full-size kind of guy...i don't get the hype with the rangers, but at least there arent any bow-ties on 'em)
