Powdercoat rear diff cover

I've got the ford finned rear diff cover. My brother works in a metal fab shop and offered to powdercoat it for me. Looks great... on the outside... they coated the inside too. Will this hold up on the inside?

I would guess it would be fairly expensive if it did not.

Not sure how the chemicals in the lube may affect the paint but would any harm really come of the paint coming off? Not an expert by any means on the rear end assembly. Just curious. Could anything get plugged? I do not believe you would have any kind of mass paint failure.

I'm no expert either. I just want to be darn sure I'm not setting myself up for future failure.

Probably not what you want to hear, but I have never seen a diff cover painted on the inside. There must be a good reason for that. I would not feel good about it. Don't know what if anything paint would do to the fluid and internals if it came off, but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be good. I would recommend chemically removing it from the inside prior to install just for peace of mind. Why chance it?

Contact the company that powdercoated it, and ask how it reacts to gear oil. Different coatings have different chemical and physical reactions to chemicals, sunlight etc. Some people actually do coat the inside of diffs, ill try to look up what kinda paint they use, as it was a special paint.

Thanks for the replies. I did send an email asking about the coating. My thoughs are also in the line of better safe than sorry but, if this will hold up, I'd rather not remove it. I put a couple pics in my gallery. They were too large to add to the thread.

I would hope the powder-coating shop would know wether this material would peel or react to a gear lube/heat inside of the diff.
Hopefully they will warranty it in writing if you have any problems.
Otherwise, have them uninstall it, and remove the powder-coating from the inside.

Its powdercoat, I've seen that stuff stand up to about anytthing. If it was paint I might be concerned, and for the amount of stuff floating around in rear-ends from the factory (or at least on mine) I wouldn't worry about it. The point of powdercoating anything is its more durable to paint.
