Since I'm (hopefully) almost finished with my brothers 86 f150, its now time to focus attention on my fiancee's 87 BII.
Currently, its leaking more and more oil, from the valve covers, and the oil pan. My plan is to do the valve cover gaskets, oil pan gasket, new oil pump, and clean the pick up tube. Is there any other "while I'm there" things I should do?
Also, how hard is it to do the oil pan on this baby? Its 4wd. Should I unbolt the motor mounts and lift the engine up a bit to get to it?
motor mounts deffinately have to come loose and lift that engine. Even then i still couldn't get the pan off so i wound up pulling the motor. Which was a good thing i did..that motor was gunked up with sludge. I pulled the heads and they were bad..replaced with newer better ones...so that made it even easier to pressure wash the ports the oil flows thru. Made it a lot easier to get the gaskets on with a good seal. Also used a small bead of RTV black sealent on both sides to ensure a good seal. NOTHING leaks now..and that's rare for a 2.9L motor.
