just need to know if I can replace just the lens on my driver side door morror, took a rock from a semi and if put a hole right through it. I have the heated trailer mirros with the running lights in them-not the turn siganls. The amber lens for the running light has about a nickel sized hole in it and I need to know if I can just replace the lens or do I need t buy a whole new mirror???
You have to replace the back housing. Check with all the ford dealers around you price varies I think mine was 100.00. Not to bad to change out first time I did it it took a bit I could do it alot faster now.
I tried replacing just the amber section....you have to buy the entire back cover just like birddog said. Then you have to paint the cover to match (if yours are painted). The amber cover is glued to the LED base and can't be separated.
Now I do have a spare cover minus the amber section.
how do you have the marker light and not the turn signals? they have both...built into the cover. or is it that you just installed these mirrors and did not hiik up the signals?
You can't replace just the lens through Ford, but you can get the Recon smoked or clear ones if that interests you. They run about the same as the back/light on one side from Ford.
There are pics of the smoked ones on my truck in my gallery. I really like them. If you do a search for Recon, you will find a few more threads on them and I believe everyone has been really pleased with them.
Beerstalker....I really like those!!!! How hard are they to intall?? I'm fairly handy but not a total gear head or anything, so on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the hardest. I really don't want to ahve to buy a whole new mirror $$$$, and this seems to be the way to go. Thanks for the info.
They aren't that hard, I would say maybe a 3. You just have to be careful not to break any of the plastic tabs when you are taking the mirror backs off. All you need is a pair of pliers and a long flat bladed screwdriver. Adjust the mirror all the way in and look behind it. You will see two little black clips that you have to pry apart, and then pull the mirror backing forward. Then adjust the mirror all the way out and there will be one more clip to release. Then the mirror back comes off and you unplug the light. There are two clips holding the light assembly in, just squess them with the pliers and take the light out. Snap the new lights in place, plug it in and snap the mirror back on to the mirror. I did mine in the parking lot at work in about 10 minutes.
