460 heads

I would like some info please. I put a 79 460 in my 68 Ford PU 4X4 this past winter. I took out a 69 428 SCJ because it was to high comp. for a tow engine. I use my Pu to tow our 25 ft travel trailer and I needed a grunt engine. I am very familiar with the FE family but not the 385 family. My 460 is bored .030 over with 10 ½ to 1 badger pistons. I have a Performer 460 intake and L&L headers. A Lunati high torker cam and a 750 Holley carb. My question is the heads are the 79 heads D3VE A2A with new hard seats, stock valves, cam kit springs and a little flow work done. My compression is about 9 to 1 and I can burn regular fuel with no ping at 15 deg. advance. I have found a set of early 460 heads C8VE E that have a lot of porting work done in the intake, exhaust and valve bowl area with screw in guide plates. The valves are still stock size. Will these heads be too high comp to burn reg. or plus gas if installed on this engine. I would like the 2.19 intakes and the 1.73 exhaust valves in these heads or my 79 heads. I have the capability to port my 79 heads. Can these early heads be cc larger to lower the compression? Any help you can give me would be really appreciated. Thank-you.

The early heads gave an advertised 10.5 compression.

You need to calculate your compression ratio:

Bore - 4.390
Stroke - ?
Compression height of Badger piston - ?
Deck clearance - ?
Compressed Gasket thickness?
Combustion chamber size of heads

Anything else is just a guess.

Any head can be milled to reduce the combustion chamber size, but to effectively raise your compression ratio you'll have to take enough off that it'll require milling the intake manifold. Here's the formula:

Amount of stock to remove to assure correct mating of ports;

----------------------------------------------Remove from Intake
Engine-----Removed from head/block----------Sides-------Bottom
429-460----------.010------------------------.010--------.014
------------------.020------------------------.020--------.028
------------------.030------------------------.030--------.042
------------------.040------------------------.040--------.057

Early heads would be a lot cheaper.
