You can save a ton wiring it up yourself. Everything is color coded. As a homeowner you are allowed to do it all yourself. Of course, it still needs to be inspected. The materials are really not that much. $500 might cover it.
It helps to have friends and live in a small town. The electicians I work with are going to do the tie in and I can buy all the materials thru work at a pretty good discount. When I first started in the computer Network business 15 yrs ago, everyone felt wire was wire and I helped a lot of electricians in this area understand Cat V wiring, so I'v still got a few markers I can call in.
That's awesome. I've all but forgotten what it's like to live in a small town. I grew up in one, but have lived in cities since about twenty years ago. You've really done well with this project. I'm sure you're happy with it. I can't wait to get going on mine....
On the garage No, I'm also replacing the siding on my house with vinyl, as a 1 man operation I'm trudging along slowly. I have learned a few tricks for putting up a 12' piece of vinyl at the top of an extension ladder. A deck is also in the works, it was easier to install the ledger board while re-siding the house.
Back to the garage:
I've got a skid steer coming in two weeks to do some backfilling and leveling the area in front of the garage so that I've got some room to maneuver. Got a garage door installer coming shortly after that for a quote, I keep bouncing back and forth between a roll back or roll up door. It gets pretty cold up here and the insulation value of a roll up is pretty low, but I hate to lose ceiling height with a roll back.
I also had enough lumber left over that I built a 4x12 foot bench for the loft.
