I need advise

My father in laws buddy is selling a 70's f-150, 2-wheel drive, with a 429 in it. He is asking $5,500 for it. First, is this a good price? Second, is there a way to make sure it is a 429, like by valve cover bolts? Thanks fellas

Depends on the condition it is in as well as mileage. Being a fairly new member to this site I don't want to presume anything, but I got my '78 F150 for $3750. I knew the guys and the trucks history and everything under the hood is new. I think I got a great deal, so I guess it is more like what you think is a good deal. Take the truck out and see how it drives, check everything from the lights, wipers, horn, turn signals, AC, radio, etc. Sometimes the little things like that can tell you a lot.

Chekc out the 429 engine forum. Im sure someone there knows how to tell. Outward apperance will look like a 460 also if im not mistaken. My best guess would be to check the stroke but im not sure of the measurements.
