Generator light on ALL the time...

Generator light on ALL the time...
<TABLE><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top width="100%">'never had a generator problem with this truck ('61 Econoline)... now the light came on several days ago... my wife uses the truck to get to work (1 mile away)
'don't have a repair manual, but have checked:
*the battery: 12.67 V - does not change voltage when the engine is revved
*fan belt for the generator: it's tight and it spins the gen.
*the voltage regulator: the bottom "coil" connects to the battery and then pushed in the GEN light goes out, but the voltage does NOT increase (at the battery) when the engine revs
...so, how do I check the VOLT.REG, and GEN to determine which is not working properly? Is there a way of "adjusting" the VOLT.REG.? I'm "in-the-dark" without "maintenance procedures" - I'm willing to fix it, I just don't know how...

</td></tr></tbody></table>Sounds like your Volt. Reg. is not grounded any more. Try taking all the mounting screws out and then screwing them back in.
This will fix it a lot of the times, you get the same result by replacing the Vol. Reg. but this way is cheaper.
If you do replace it do not forget to polarize it.

I was just looking at an old schematic, and it looks like the "f" terminal on the generator gets a + voltage to excite the field. So if you want to do some testing, take the field wire off the generator, and hook a wire from the bat + to the "f" terminal on the gen. The gen should go wide open and you should see the voltage jump up at the battery if the gen is good.
