cant believe all the info on this site! i have a question for you guys...how is the solenoid suppose to be wired in a 79 f150? the mess that is under the hood of this truck cant be right. im gonna take a pic and post so some can see.

I may be needing the same thing. My truck starts good, but if I make some stops and have to start it a few times in a short time period it gets harder to start, just kind of cranks for a bit then a big pause.
ejolliffe, I doubt your problem has to do with the solenoid. Sounds more like the battery, timing or something else might be bad. Do you have headers? They could be cooking the starter.
I do have headers, the starter is new and doesn't look like it is that close to the headers (eventhough I know it gets hot in there). Is there a way to check the solenoid?
