A couple weeks back i bought a 1985 f.250 4x4 5.8 4 speed for 500 dollars, the other day a kid came up to me and asked me if i would consider trading him my truck for his, his is a 86 F.250 4x4 300-6 4 speed, i went and looked, he slid sideways into a tree with it, causing damage to driverside door, cab corner, and bed corner, no frame damage at all, this truck comes with a new cab, doors hood, fenders, new bed off a newer truck like a 95, it has 4.11 gears, my truck is roted to hell, but his truck is all torn down, the original cab is still sitting on the frame, but everything in it is torn apart, he claims he has all the parts(bolts, nuts etc) how hard would it be to get it back together, the new cab is from an automatic truck, now, i originall bought the 250 with the V8 to be a sled pulling truck but this one with the 300 and 4.11s i think would be better and all the truck pulls ive gone to ive never seen a 300 powered pulling truck, all 460s, tell me what you think
Sounds like he has a ton of good parts, but, for your application, I wouldn't downgrade in the power department, pulling(if you're talking sled pulling) is all about high rpm HP and good midrange torque, and a 300 is a low revving torquer.
I'd maybe offer to buy his pile of parts. I definitely wouldn't trade a complete, running truck for someone else's half finished project.
I wouldnt do it
you can buy a nice parts truck or something for a couple hundred, sucks your body is rotted. I also have a 351W w/four speed but this f250 is HD and I think it would really drag *** with a six. Plus, like 82F100 said, never trade a running vehicle for a pile of parts, bc if the truck was nearly complete, dude would NOT be willing to trade.
Nice score on the truck btw is the cab shot as well?
truck runs and drives, the kid works in the factory i work at thats how he found out i had the truck, my cab is shot, cab corners all "quickly" bondoed, its bad
To me it sounds like the kid wanting to trade doesn't want to do the work because he's either lazy or he's opened a can of worms he didn't figure on. I'd be suspicious about this deal.
And are you sure he doesn't have frame damage on his truck? Not all frame damage is visible to the naked eye. The only way to really check the frame is to put it on a frame rack and see if it's in spec. Usually, if a person starts a project, you can keep tabs on it and you know it from front to back, top to bottom. But if you take over someone else's project, it can be a nightmare because you have to figure out what the other guy has done, and possibly correct any mistakes.
