I need tires for my F-350. I have 265/75R 16's on their now. I would like to go bigger. What is the biggest size tire I can go with and not have to worry about rubbing and having to put a lift kit in to make tires fit. Any suggestions would be great.
Your best bet would be to throw on 285/75R16s (approx. 33X11.5). They may rub a little on full turn, but they fill out the wheel well nicely. I'm sure anything bigger will rub a lot more. Rubbing will probably also depending on what brand and the tread. More aggressive more rub, less aggressive little or no rub at all. I've heard of other guys not rubbing with 285/75s but I assume they are using an AT. I have the Toyo Open Country MTs and since the tread extends out a bit I believe that contributes to my rubbing on full turns.
I'm pretty sure it depends on what year your truck is. I had a 2004 and 295s would have been the largest tire that would fit without a lift (a freind had this size and got rub only on one side becase the steering bump was a 1/4 inch shorter). But, my 2005 currently has 315 70/17s and there is absoultey no rub. Both of the trucks were crew cab fx4s.
The only reason the 2004 fit a smaller tire is because it has leaf springs in the front--when you turn all the way to steering bumps, the larger tires will hit the springs. Because the 2005 and newer trucks have coils in front, the larger tires work without rubbing. I say go to a tire store and have them fit a couple diffent sizes of the tire you want to ensure you don't get rub.
