'lane change' blinkers

I searched to no avail. I was wondering what year Ford started making the turn signals where you just hold it on to make a lane change? I think it was 80, but I can't remember how my 81 was. I've been driving the ole gal to work on the 4-lane hiway and I thought it would be a nice upgrade. I guess I could just not use turn signals, most people around here think they are optional anyway.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Yep, your correct, on my 80 F-150 you pull it down/up and when your done changing lanes you push it back to center and go on down the highway/up the driveway. Hope this helps!

My 1979 works the way you described. I haven't any documentation nor owned/driven anything older than 1978 so can't tell when they started making them this way.

My 77 has it.

I would think it goes back further than that though.

My 78 operates that way. I have slept way to many times to remember if my 63 or 64 worked that way. Check with the guys in the older truck forums.

I had read somewhere that the lane change signals were invented by a Ford engineer. He was tired of constantly switching them on and off for lane changes, went home from work and tore the switch apart filed some of the slotted edge of the switch away and invented the lane change signals.Ford must have had some real smart guys working for them in the 60's. Lane change signals, double sided keys, twin I beam, magi-gate tail gates ect. Bet they wish they were still there.

I'm not talking about auto shut off. I'm talking about holding the blinker arm on momentarily to change a lane, and then letting it go when you are finished; it never fully engages. The cam for the auto shut off won’t cycle far enough to shut them off for a lane change. If the 77.5 and up has it, it will be an even easier upgrade than I thought. Dennis, which one was you referring to and is my 76 supposed to have it? Sorry if anyone is confused.

My 77 does not have the lane change feature. The turn signal switch is either full on or full off.
