Engine Rebuild

hey,
I Own a 1980 F250 Custom Straight Six 300 with a four speed. I picked up a 302 out of a 1985 302 pretty cheap. First the 302 came with EFI. I want to put a Carb on to make it easier to go into my truck. I was wondering what type of intake and carb should I get? I also plan on rebuilding the 302. This is my first engine rebuild and was looking for some pointers. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hey and welcome to FTE!!

There's all kinda ways you can do this. It all depends on how much you wanna spend and how many ponies you wanna make. A lot of the guys here (myself included) like the Edelbrock performer intake. Most of them will tell you to stay with Edelbrock for the carb too. I used to feel the same way. Until Holley came out with their Avenger series carbs. I have a Street Avenger 670cfm on my 351W and love it. Bolted it on right straight from the box with zero tuning. And it has a million mile power valve blowout warranty. Since I got my carb they have came out with a Truck Avenger series, which is specially designed to make more low end torque. If I had it to do over again that is what I'd buy.

Good luck,
Ron

aheb2829 look in the tech article section. There is a article covering common mistaken made while rebuilding an engine posted there. It's rough half way down the page.
