I found an interesting fact sheet on another website for engine diamentions and weights. Only problem is that they have 2 differant listings. One says the Y block 292 weighs more then a 429/460 engine. Does anyone know the real differance? I am putting a 429 into my truck once it comes back from the machine shop and want to know if stock spring will handle the weight. I am replacing the springs but wanted to get a straight answer before ordering them. Oh the site is www.classictruckshop.com Thanks.
Anything I've ever seen shows Y-blocks and FE's about the same at 625 lbs. The 429/460 is about 750 lbs. Personally I don't think an extra 125 lbs in the front would hurt anything if you're talking about stock leaf springs. It might even help the ride some.
Thanks. I was thinking that is wasn't a major difference in weights. I am still thinking of having one extra leaf added. I'll talk to a spring shop and see what they recommend before finalizing my decission.
