The 76 and 77 boosters are different and 77 will not work in a 76 without fabrication.
The steering columns are NOT wired for cruise
The special wiring HARNESS Before it hooks to the column wiring is what allows for cruise control.
You see Ford allowed for the adaptation for cruise with minimal changes
The trucks that got cruise control used the normal horn circuit to power the cruise buttons and then used another circuit with a relay to power the horns.
You can see the difference how the cruise/horn pad hook to the steering wheel
compared to Non-cruise horn pads
The 76 and 77 boosters are different and 77 will not work in a 76 without fabrication.
so do I need the booster?
If I understand, I don't need the column or the steering wheel from the donor just the horn pad with the switches and the pigtail wiring that plugs in between the standard cab wiring harness and standard steering column wring harness. I got all that.
the only other thing I didn't get that was on your list is the horn relay and wiring. is that under the hood?
I also can't help being curious about what the difference is between cruise and non-cruise boosters are, if I go to advanced auto and look up a booster it list the same booster fits:
I just looked at the cruise wiring harness I have and it does not include the horn relay. I remember that for harness and boxes I have pulled from 78-79's. Would you know where the horn relay is on the 77?
