good God! What a horrible thing for this kid to endure.. I cant imagine what it would be like to go thru all he did, let alone in the public eye... Those 2 guys convicted of the crime will no doubt find prison brings them a similar fate.. even then, they are getting off easy compared to what they did to this kid...
I read where the kid refused mental health treatments/counseling.. too bad.. He certainly needed professional help to recover emotionally..
To answer your question, I never saw this story until now.. I am in western NY...
I read about it when it happened and also heard a breif mention of it on the news but havent heard anything since until I read this thread. Terribly sad, I hope the boys that did it were introduced to the proverbial "Big Bubba" and have had the opportunity to get to know him up close and personal...............daily.
This kid makes it sound as though the entire world was lauughing at him.
Well, let's see - he had an umbrella handle from a patio table shoved up his backside, went through many surgeries to repair the damage, was degraded and humiliated and was then picked on mercilessly around his hometown. I don't know what his problem was either .
If you have ever known a victim of sexual violence (I do), then you would know that what they go through during the actual attack is very short lived compared to what they go though afterward - some for the rest of their lives like this kid. Besides the horrible memory and the nightmares, people talk about them like they are dirty or somehow to blame. It is no wonder most rapes go unreported - the victim gets victimized again and again.
I Understand this kid went through some HORRIBLE crap.
His direct quote was
It's just the fact that everyone knows I'm the kid. It was bigger than Houston. It was bigger than Texas. It was bigger than America. Everybody in the world knew what had happened and everybody knew the details of it."
and I had never heard the story before, and was wondering if it truely was national and worldly news as this kid stated.... THAT was my reason for the OP.

I'm not trying to figure out what his problem was, I'm trying to figure out if I'm that much out of the news loop........
had the story been about a stolen car that the owner stated was worldy news, and had I not heard about it, I would have inquired about it as well....
but to answer my own question, the only 2 people who had heard about it are the 2 closest to houston.

Not sure what the population of Houston is but to this kid, even if everyone in his neighborhood knew about what happened, that might as well have been the entire world to him. All it would take is a couple neighborhood losers laughing at him every day and it probably would seem like the whole world.
I read about it on the web when the guys got convicted. It's absolutely horrible what he went through and I blame the guys that tortured him for a lot of what happened now, but he had other problems before he got attacked. He was doing drugs with some kid he met in alternative school that night. It doesn't make it alright, but it does indicate he had some problems before they pushed him over the edge.
It is a shame he didn't get the help he needed but at least his pain and embarassment are over.
And now beause of this, many lives are ruined, not just his. I feel bad for all the families involved. I wouldn't wish what is happening to the punks that did this on anyone but they are in for a tough time in prison. All because the kid made a pass at on of their sisters.
And I agree OKMIC1, the kid was no angel before this happened - none of them is blameless. Just a shame all around.

In the other article I read about this story the girl wasn't even their sister. She was the sister of another kid, the one he met in alt. school. The other two guys were just a couple of racist thugs that used it as an excuse to torture somebody weaker than themselves.
Yes, I remember reading about it when it happened.
> none of them is blameless
He was blameless.
Raping an unconscious person, there is no excuse for that and what could the victim do other then lie there, be burnt with cigarettes, and burned with bleach?
No deserves this kind of treatment, including the felons. What they do deserve, is upon conviction they should have been hung in public and the kid or a blood relative should have had the option of pulling the lever.
That might have gone a LONG way towards helping the victim heal and come to terms with his rape and torture.
