I thought I read in the local newspaper that the GA DOT or GA State Police were doing safety checks because of the high number of small trailer accidents. Also, just as info, the Technical Service Bulletin from Ford is number 18892 that explains the voltage output issue. This TSB is dated 10/19/2005. Again, the problem, or as FORD states, "...1-3 volts on vehicles built before 3/23/05. And is greater than 10 volts on vehicles built after 3/23/05. (i.e. only manual controller. No difference in pedal application)
my 05 was built in July 04. My first controller took a crap and in mid 06 it was replaced with the new controller. I did notice a significant difference, though I will say even the first was head and shoulders over any aftermarket I have ever used in my opinion.
I agree. BUT, I still carry an aftermarket PRODIGY in my tool box with my truck. Just in case. I remember little difference on the road between the prodigy and the built in controller, just the built in is a lot neater and better location.

You may have read that in a local State paper, but remember the State can only enforce its laws on its State residents, if you travel through a State as a guest you only have to meet Your State rules and the Federal rules (ie if CA requires an Endorsement to pull a 5K RV trailer they can only require their State residents to have it).
My trailer brakes dont want work either after I slow down to around 10 or 15 mph. So I can just call the NHTSA and they will have a ford shop replace my brake controller with one that will work at lower speeds plus when I am sitting still? When I am moving at an idle and manually set my trailer brakes all the way nothing happens. Is this basically the same problem you guys had?
Yeah, but, a couple guys called the NHTSA and said they bot mine to see what I had. You can dog out the link. I left GA for PA about two weeks ago. So nice, with new controller to set to 10 and not be able to budge the trailer. I normally run about 6 level or 7 on down side mountains. Sorry, but they will not buy you one, maybe later, and the whole deal is probably over $400.00 R & R. Good luck,

Have you filed a complaint with the NHSTA? You can do it on line. Then I called Ford. Then I wrote a lot of bad stuff on this forum. Then I explained to Allan Vigil Ford in Atlanta my displeasure. Then I called the GA Dept of Trans. Then I called the PA Dept of Transportation. Then I called the US Dept of Transportation. These are just from memory as all this was two years ago. After waiting two years, I got a call from the NHSTA out of the clear blue sky and they asked would I give them my bad controller. I think the flat rate on R & R is a little more than an hour. It is a component and pretty easy to get out. Sorry I cannot help any further.
