TJ. Consider it sold. I will also pay for express shipping. We were at the Grand Canyon all weekend without outside communication ( a good thing sometimes). The truck ran good on cruise control but had issues when I needed throttle control. I am going to call it a day but will post pictures of the good part of the weekend and the Found On Road Dead part of the trip back to Vegas. Thank you so much. Anytime you want to come to Vegas, you have a place to stay here at the house. I will be in touch so I can send you the money. Thanks again. You restore my faith in people and as a Fisher of Men, you have much of which to be proud. Talk to you tomorrow.

Problem solved by tjbeggs. Thanks Tim, However, I would like to pass along some info so others can avoid the hassle. The link below has a picture of the 3 TPS's that I tried so I wouldn't have to go to the stealership. The Ford TPS is the only one that will work. Both the Wells and Dorman TPS's have the angle wrong where the pedal tab fits into them. This causes the voltage to be incorrect and cause the tranmission to be confused. You must obtain an original TPS via ebay, etc. or pay the dealership $400 ($800 if it is a newer model). Don't waste your time trying to use something else. It just won't work.

tj is the bomb IMO. Congrats on the fix. Funny, I am in Parker AZ. now till next Friday. I went thru Henderson you have beautiful land out here. The Colorado river brings in the wild ones though.

Thanx for the info, as I understand it the ford is the only one that works even though one of them looks similiar.

Question

syjl: so you cant modify that wrong angle in any way?, because the Dorman and the original looks very similar but the bushings and the angle for the pedal tab.

My TPS messes up every 5 mos or so and you can actually bent parts of it and shim parts of it to keep it working.

I did drill new holes in the Wells (autozone) TPS because it was only $30. However, at one point it held the throttle open (jammed) and that was a safety issue for me. The Dorman unit at $70 including shipping was not worth the effort when I could get a complete used OEM assembly for $100. The truck now shifts and runs correctly without the unknown factor of pulling into traffic not knowing if the pedal would work or the transmission would shift to 3rd immediately.

Gentlemen, I find myself needing a TPS again for my 1997 F350 diesel. I purchased one from tjbeggs 5 years ago but it is acting up again. As you can see by this thread, only the Ford one will work unless someone knows of a new source. Thank you.

I put a Dorman 699-200 in my truck last summer. It has worked fine since then. Maybe they made them better? You can get them on Amazon for less than $40 if you are willing to try one again.

I would say your best bet is the Ford unit- They can be had on ebay much cheaper- Just last week I had a customers SD in that had a Dorman TPS in it- It failed- new dorman worked fine, I still recommended the Ford unit. In my experience Dorman parts are a big hit or miss proposition- The dorman may make a good "get you down the road" part but not a fix it for the long haul part- I use many dorman parts in my daily operation- some are good, some I would not trust for a second

I would love a Ford one, but I thought they were really pricey? Have they come down?

1) I am returning the one I got from OReilly's which says Ford on it but isn't even close.

2) I have ordered one from AM Autoparts - After Market Auto Parts - Headlights, Mirrors, and More for $50 as a backup but I doubt it will work

3) I will comb the junkyards here in Vegas for one and then try ebay.

Thank you for the usual great support and I will keep you posted.

Jeff

Gents, The TPS from AM Autoparts turned out to be the Dorman 699-200. I put it in and it seems to work fine. Perhaps, like tjbeggs suggested, some of them are good and some not so much. The one I purchased 5 years ago absolutely did not work. Thanks for your help.
