I just want to get some insight on this problem. My truck runs flawles but when I tow my 15,000 lb fifth wheel up hills when the cooling fan comes on there is a screech type sound and once the fan is running it goes away, but after that there is a loud whine coming out of what I think sounds like the turbo over working, has anyone had this problem, please help as i amready to go dodge. I have owned over 7 trucks with diesel motors and have never had thes type of noises.
there has been some threads about similar problems, turns out to be the fan clutch or something, search this forum and you may find the answer you are looking for
thanks but the sound comes on after the fan kicks on which sounds like the turbo is over spinning . my dealer put in a new fan clutch but it still screeches, my problem is a very high pitched whine.

west coast slayer,
First off welcome to FTE lots of good people and info around here.
FYI all engines have different sounds specific to that engine, the 6.0 sounds different than the other diesel engines you have had.
As for your problem, have the diesel tech look for a loose or cracked exhaust up-pipe especially around the EGR feed, as this will cause a whistling sound under load.
How many miles on your truck and what mods do you have?
ALso leave the Dodge and other manufacture comments out of your posts and you will get better responses to your questions, this is a Ford site remember.
I had the edge juice in the truck but took it out. The truck has 45,000 miles on it the only mod left is an air raid intake, lift kit with 38" tires and a ring and pinion change.
thanks for the info blackhat. I went to another dealer yesterday and he asked me if i had an aftermarket intake, of course i do have one and he said to take it out because the extra air flow could possibly make a small leak whine loud when the motor is working hard so I am going to try this. This problem only happens when pulling a load up hills and only when the cooling fan is engaged. He said to try this approach and if that doesnt work then he can put it on the dyno under a load to further diagnose.
