I know that sound! I used Crane cam/lifters twice and they both had a faint lifter clatter. As you said, solid lifter sound. I assumed it was caused by the anti-pumpup lifters. Anyway, never was a problem.
thanks for all the replies guys, yesterday I headed out to the desert, 110degreese and stuck my foot in it, ran 100mph for 10 miles, don't laugh..when your 60yrs old 100mph seems fast in a 66 mustang..nothing changed, still just a little noise at Idle, so I don't think I have a cam/lifter wear problem..I still think my problem was from pumping them up before installing them...when my blood pressure gets back to normal I will call CompCams and talk to them
thanks Pete, I've read several artical and post heres regarding cam?lifter wear problems, I used the comp cam and lifters hoping I would get a better quality rather than some OEM replacement stuff...and have beenusing Delo400 in all my flat tappet motors for a couple of years, I think the brake in went well, but I still think I screwed up by pumping the lifters up
