Intermittent Noise

I have a 2004 F-150 FX4. When I first start driving I hear a metal to metal sound on my right front wheel/brake area. I thought I needed brakes but after taking it in to the shop it was determined that my brakes looked fine at 52,000 miles. Sound seems to go away after a while, but comes back. Someone suggested today that it might be my 4-wheel drive gear box might need oil?

Any suggestion. This is my first post.

It could be your front hubs trying to engage. Try to put it in 4H and back to 2H and see if that makes the sound go away. You may have a vacuum leak or other problem. Do a search under "IWE" on this forum to see if your problem sounds related to those. Let us know how it goes.
