how do ya get a nice deep green lawn? ive watered and fertilized pretty much did every thing i can think of and im still getin the light green grass. it looks awsome just i know its missin somthing cuzz its just not as dark green as it should be. i planted it this spring after all the landscaping was done
Call a local nursery and see what they recommend. Some of them will even test your soil for you. I know Ironite turns mine really green but I'm sure Texas soil is going to be different than WI soil.
Yellowing occurs mostly due to either:
A. Application of weed killer, either spray or in weed-n-feed fertilizer. It can recover though.
B. Nitrogen deficiency. Several possibilities ranging from improper pH which can inhibit nutrient absorption, to over watering leaching away the nutrients. Too much rain can cause this also.
C. Other nutrient deficiency, like iron. Which can be caused due to the same as B.
How about some more info...
1. What kind of grass?
2. What type of soil?
3. What type of fertilizer did you apply and when? Chemical analysis? Weed-n-feed? Slow release?
4. Have you sprayed weed killer on it?
5. Have you checked/adjusted the soil pH? Cause that can affect nutrient absorption.
its kind of a sandy lome. was a hay field before i scraped all up and landscaped it.never put no weed killer on. not shure actualy the kind of grass just that it was scott's lawn seed. fertalizer was just some lawn fertalizer from walmart. i need to get a soil sample done yet,but i was thinking that if this was such a good lookin hay field that it should be great for a lawn.heck the back 2acres is still a good lookin hay field
You have to learn to be patient. A seeded lawn can take up to three years to actually be consider a lawn. Do not water everyday as this will cause the the roots to stay on top and not get a hold down where the roots should be. If you water twice a week and water heavy. You will have a good lawn. If and when you fertilize, only use half of what the bag says, and then reapply 2-3 weeks later, again at half the recommended rate. The biggest mistake is people over water, and when the real hot weather comes in, the grass stresses out because the roots are too far up, and not down in the cool damp soil where they should be.
i gess ill have to wait till next year or so. ive just been workin hard on this place to get every thing done and im just about there and was thinkin i did something wrong with the lawn.i only water once a week and let the rain do the rest only fertalized it once.so i gess next year itll be greener. i shure hope this is the ONLY house i have built.next weekend will be a year ive been here and finaly its just about finished well the house and shop are just the yard isnt
