Ford maintenance package question

Guys, as some of you may remember, I just bought a 2005 X a few months ago and I got the longest warranty available and they also sold me a maintenance package.

However, when I took it to have the oil changed (included) they couldn't find me in their oasis sytem and after only about SIX calls to the people that sold me the truck, they told me they shouldn't have sold me the maintenance package because the truck was used.

They DID refund my money but my question is, CAN they sell a ford maintenance (NOT warranty) package if the truck is USED or NOT?

Another dealer claimed HE could but he also just ripped my buddy off so I'm not sure I believe him

Thanks

George

I'm not too sure about this, but it's just at the dealers discretion based on age and miles.

According to these people, they had NO choice but had to refund my money?

That doesn't make sense..

Doesn't make sense, I've never known a dealership to give back money so willingly. It would've made more sense for them to just keep the money and honor the maintenance agreement. Your truck gets properly maintained, they get some business, and they make a small profit.

Giving back the maint money SAVES them money ! a LOT of it...

I would be screaming since that was part of the sales CONTRACT - correct ?

Well, to answer your question. YES, it was part of the contract but I did pay for it, around 600 bucks. Still not sure how long because the *******s say they cant find my original purchase contract and I frankly can't find mine so I can't check for now.

I'm mainly curious because I want to know if I got screwed or not?

I can get another maintenance warranty that seems to cover the same for similar money but it's not ford and I am afraid that IF I travel I might have problems. If it's ford and I'm in the oasis, I can go anywhere and just drop it off at a ford dealership, right? At least in the US.

Why do you say that it saves them money?

Also, what IS the truth? WERE they allowed to sell me the maint package IF the truck was used (still under warranty) with 16k miles?

What should I do and what kind of maintenance am I looking for, for around 600 bucks?

What that was for was oil and tire rotation but I liked the idea of having it done for years without having to do anything. I got the premium care warranty till 100,000 miles and till 2011 and I THINK the maintenance was till 2010 and I thought that was pretty sweet. That way I can go anywhere and simply drop the truck off and say, FIX IT because I got ALL the coverage they had..

Advice..?

George

The dealership technically loses money because the price of oil changes goes up and on occasion comes down. You paid a flat rate, so no matter what the price of oil, you never have to pay and the dealership eats the cost of it no matter what. As far as the maintenance package, I don't see a problem with it being offered as you vehicle has only 16k on it. If we were talking 50K or 60K, I could understand, but that's just plain ridiculous. If they sold it to you, they should honor it; the vehicle is practically new. Different dealerships have different ways of doing things, so I think thats what happened here.

I did a write up on warranties and maintenance packages and it's always best to stay away from third party warranties and such. Whenever theres a problem, someone has to come look at it (when they're available), and sometimes theres A LOT of red tape to go through because they don't cover this or that. With Ford warranties, they know what's covered and what's not, so there's no confusion.

So, bottom line, I make them sign me up and send them the money?

How can I find out WHAT I actually paid for. I think I paid little over 600 bucks.

I mean, if I can't find my original contract and they are jerking me around, how do I know how long I bought it for? I REALLY DO think it was till 2010..

Hey, found it! I got them to send me a print out at least and it says 75,000 miles or 2010 if I'm not reading this thing wrong.

So, I should ask them to honor this and send them the money then? My lawyer said that they HAD to honor it I think..I think I would rather be with Ford so I can go to any dealership and they can just look me up in the Oasis.

Thanks

George

I'm guessing what you paid for were oil changes. My brother got it on his '04 Mustang (paid $600) and that's all it really covers. Maybe a few small other things, but the oil changes are the meat of it.

Oil changes and tire rotation till 2010, not bad I thought..?

Should I try to get them to honor it rather than get a third party or should I just pay every time?I see it being cheaper with the contract and I still change oil every 3000 miles out of habit. Bottom line, it wont' hurt to change MORE often will it and I don't do much highway anyway.Mostly stop and go.
