Hi Folks, I inherited a 1969 F 100 all original. Complete with Original Bill Of sale Title, Tag, and Owners Manual.. It is very straight and has minimal rust but needs TLC. I want to convert the three speed tranny to one with the electric overdrive (Borg Warner). If anyone has on for sale please see my ad in wanted.
I am looking forward to meeting some nice people on this site.

Welcome to FTE
Finding the transmission is tough enough, but finding the parts that go with it are tougher. You will need an overdrive relay, kickdown switch, wiring harness, overdrive cable, brackets, shift rods, a different driveshaft and slip yoke. The current 3 speed you now have is all syncro, the BW overdrive has a crash first.
Finding one of those transmissons in good shape will be hard. No one I know rebuilds them and your can no longer get any hard parts for them. I also thought that tranny didn't have a true OD but that it just split gears?
I have the cable, relay, and kickdown switch. I am 73 years old and am quite familiar with the tranny. The cluch is not needed to shift gears below 28mph, the cases are the same as three spd except a 1/4' hole in the rear of the case, for the reverse lockout rod. The rear support crossmember can be slipped backward for the trans mount. The shift rods are the same.
I usually eliminate the kickdown, and use a toggle switch. That way I have six forward speeds, even though some gears overlap. This was good for fast shifts in high speed road racing, or moonshine liquor hauling.
Welcome to FTE Ray, the nations truckstop for tech support.
Seems that you may have more knowledge of those trannys than most of us. Pull up a chair on our porch and set a spell with us. We are always interested in learning more about ol Ford trucks.
