I have had a Bully Dog programmer now for about three years, Just for grins I called the tech support folks last week and talked with one of their guys and kinda got a low down on what the Bully Dog maps do.
The Bully Dog maps (tunes) just advance your injector timing, they DONOT raise your injector fuel pressure. this is how they can claim the lowest EGT's of any programmer on the market. Well, me, always wanting just a little more got to thinking why not add a 10K mod to this and see what happens. For a whopping $2.00 at Radio Shack I bought a pack of 5, 10K ohm resistors and installed one in my IPR. results are
1. raises idle speed about 150rpm's
2. makes throttle a whole lot more sensitive
3. makes smoke now, not huge but a good black cloud
4. got rid of the slight knock at idle
This is a very inexpensive mod to try, also very easy install it takes longer to get the step stool and blankets out than it does to install the resistor.
I am going to try 18K potentiometer next week and see what settings may or may not make the truck run better.
Stay tuned.
Ahh, so that is what Chris was talking about. When are you going to call Jody?
Yeah, I know, I don't even have a DP tuner and I am one of his biggest praisers. I will call him soon, but I am about to have the silver train track mod installed on my daughters mouth(braces) so I will have to save up. Although, HMMM, I will be in Stone Mtn. Ga for a week starting on the 13th*** gets map out and looks for Hoschton GA.**** I'll call Jody and Diane after the 5th, might need to see their new house.....
