well i pulled the muffler off my 2000 and WOW is all i can say. the turbo spooles faster the truck sounds better and after it shifts out of 1st it just lets loose. i was just looking to dump a little back press but i didn't know it would do all that. anyong have mpg numbers or if it will even make a difference in fuel mileage.if nothing else it sounds cool
A real mandrel bent 4"+ turbo back makes even more of a difference. I went straight for that from MBRP... Love the sound. I left the "muffler" in, but it's just a tube you look can look straight through. I think it's more of a resonator than muffler. Probably just changes the tone a bit. I ought to pull it and see what the difference is.
The down side is that my wife hasn't driven her truck since I've been back home (been out of town for the last 5 months, bought the truck two weeks before I left). Seems like she's starting to fall for diesels now, too... Unfortunately, I doubt my garage will hold TWO PSDs!!! It's all I can do to fit what we have now in there...

Yes your MPG will go down because you will be driving to hear the new sound, It will get better when you go back to driving normal. PERMA GRIN is cool.
now for even more fun order up a 4" ssystem and get dual rear exit to hear it in stereo.
Welcome to the dark side.

Izzy-
Was your MBPR exhaust overall more quite than the stock set up? My stock pipe with no muffler just sounds obnoxious. Too loud and no low rumble at all. I have good turbo whine but overall the pitch is too high and kinda “hole in the muffler” sound. When the EBPV kicks on at warm up I get the jet engine treatment as well. What are your impressions? <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
It has an awesome tone!! In fact, I've listened to the 5" clips, and I still prefer the old muscle car sound the MBRP reminds me of (with the added bonus of the whistle!!). I really think their muffler creates it -- kind of like glass packs. Here's an audio clip from Guzzle's site (mine sounds just like it):

Oh, sorry.... Didn't answer that one. Getting tired.
It's definitely louder, but really only when you get on it. Idling or casually driving through the neighborhood it just sounds different, not louder IMO.
His is a little different than most others because he has his exiting in front of the rear wheel instead of behind it. He *does* have the muffler installed. I listened to them again, and it just dawned on me what his sounds like -- a 5.0 5-speed Mustang! Except for the whistle & injectors, of course. I kept thinking it sounded familiar, then it hit me that it sounded like my 'stang before I dropped the 351W, C6, long-tube headers & glass packs in it!!
I got rid of my muffler about a month ago until I can afford a complete system, but I love the sound. I keep a very close eye on my fuel milage but cannot tell if my increased milage is from the exhaust because I made a driving style change about the same time. I drive a lot of highway and went from setting the cruise at 75 to setting the cruise at 65 and gained almost 2 mpg.
The one thing I have noticed is about a week after I removed my muffler I noticed my air filter guage was sucked in to 65% so I changed my air filter. The next week I noticed my air filter guage was sucked in to 75%. So I guess it is time to get rid of the stock filter box and get something that will flow a little more.

If you're on a budget, check out the 6637 -- at most it'll cost you $50 (you can get it for ~$35 shipped from fleetfilter.com) but performs extremely well. You can even install the filterminder if you desire (I chunked mine in the airbox and left it there). There are a couple ways to install it -- just search around here and I'm sure you get plenty of hits. There were a couple threads just recently on it...

Actually, IIRC from some previous threads, the stock filter minder will never move with the 6637, due to the fact that it flows so mouch more air than the stock box. I would think you would have to plaster the 6637 with prarie mud to get the flow down enough to move the minder. Doesn't the AIS have a upgraded filter minder that is calibrated for a higher flow.
Yeah, you're probably right Brandon. The other option is to extend the wiring on the AIT sensor and mount it there like kwik did. Probably a much more worthy cause.
That's why I chunked mine in the box. When I bought my truck, the filter was fairly dirty -- not filthy, but dirty enough that I thought the filterminder should've showed something. I think that thing is for people that don't take care of their trucks and need to be reminded. Not really worth a whole lot for those of us that actually look under the hood occasionally.
