i was just watching an episode of horsepower tv where they were putting togather a flatty . as i am now running a electric fuel pump i was curious as to why they stressed to plug the hole where the fuel pump driveshaft was in the block anyone care to enlighten me before i mess up my flatty ????
That is usually only necessary on the 59AB and earlier engines; 8BA's don't have the same problem. Just make sure your bushing is in place.
At the time I converted mine to electric pump, I wasn't sure if I needed to plug it, so I played it safe. Easiest fix (my way, of course) was to cut the pushrod in half, weld a nut on one end, and drop that into the bushing. It can't go anywhere, and I made it short enough to clear the cam lobe. It's just like stock as far as oil thru the bushing.
man you must have been reading my mind albuq as i was just gonna cut mine and either try and musroom the end or weld somethin' on the end instead of looking forever or paying big bucks for a simple plug . well at least i'm on the right track . thanx again guys !
