Apparently that hose has been disconnected for quite some time. I just reconnected it today. What does this thing do!?

Smog system breather is my guess I got the old can type in mine. But the Caly emissions are different than here. I never saw that air intake hose running by battery anywhere but in the sun state

i think i remember reading somewhere that is a sort of muffler for the air pump, so you would not hear the air pump sound, again i do not really know it was a few weeks ago when i read it and thats is how i interpreted it.

I have one of those on mine also .... I just figured it was a filter to keep large chunks of debris out of the AIR Pump. Mine is located in the same place.

I also believe that device to be an air pump "muffler" to reduce the noise coming from it.

That makes sense because when the hose was off there was a loud putting noise coming from the end of the hose, which went away when I disconnected it. Thanks a bunch guys.

It's cool dude. I think those guys might be on target with the "muffler" idea since it quieted down the noise quite a bit when I reattached the hose. Thanks Andy.

Dump Silencer

It is a Dump Silencer.
The system will dump secondary air to the atmosphere during some operating modes.
