Okay, so I know you guys are thinking right now that possibly Reek has lost his mind. But I was thinking maybe I would approch a subject that as far as I know possibly has never been broched on this forum yet and that is manifold cooking with our PSD's. I mean we love them for the torque and the power, there is no reason we cant use them as a fine culinary device as well. I mean, all our wives and girlfrends just think were all a bunch of gear heads, think of their reaction when you tell them we not only talk about deisel stuff but exchange recipes as well. So here is one of my favorite fly fishing recipe.
Maniifold Burritos.
Three potatoes
refried beans (only when with the guys)
chedder cheese
onion
salsa
tortillas
Heavy duty foil
Fry potatoes the night before with cut up onion. pre-make burritos layering the beans, cheese, potatoes and salsa. Double roll in foil( triple roll if you havent fixed that fuel drain oring yet!!)
Place on manifold while warming up truck and driving to the river. Serve warm when you get there!!!
Enjoy
I once had a trucker tell me he could cook a corninsh game hen on his manifold to perfection from Idaho Falls Idaho to Salt Lake City (About 3.5 hours)
Burritos, hot dogs, hamburgers, bratwurst, scrambled eggs, omlettes, steaks, ribs, trout, bass, catfish, etc.
If you prepare items and freeze them, you can use the manifolds to simply reheat the meals. The heavy duty foil surrounding the frozen meal causes the ice crystals to steam the food.
I don't do anything fancy, usually, with the food. Any Betty Crocker recipe can be converted to a manifold-cooking recipe during most trips that last 2 - 4 hours. Results are better if engine speed remains constant. Constant engine speed = constant engine temperature; Constant engine temperature = even cooking, like in an oven or BBQ.
Beleive it or not, I did in fact heat a burrito once on the exhaust manifold of a compressor on a job site! I dont see why in the world it would not work with the PSD! You could name your recipe book, "Cooking with Kerosene". Or "Poached PSD delights"!
OR the Best being............................."The DIT Dutch Oven"
I just use the store bought stuff, you guys are more motivated than I am. Simple guy food.......buy the burrito of your choice, wrap in foil, stick on engine an hour before lunch. (But, I do it on my Jeep, not on the PSD)
