Smile weight?

I can't seem to find any where on the internet how much a 6.9 diesel engine weighs assembled. I am fixin to buy a engine stand, to start the rebuild on my 6.9. How much should it be rated to hold?

Depending on how many of the extra parts you install, you are looking at 1000 to 1200 pounds.

My 6.9 turbo is right at 1200 pounds.

Thanks Dave, So a 1500 Lb rated stand should be enough.

Should do nicely.

I was going to say that you need to be able to hold extra weight.
When you are bolting on or removing parts you can add some extra weight pulling on a wrench.

I will say this right now. Spend the money and get a stand with a crank to turn it. They cost alot more but you'll thank the man upstairs when you try to rotate the engine. I had a 7.3 on a stand years ago and tried to turn it by hand. Long story short is when I got it to turn finally it tore the bar out of my hands. It took 3 guys lifting while I worked the bar to get it upright again.

And now you have a nice crack in the concrete to remind you of that I'll bet. Be glad you didn't break it's fall...

I never said it fell. It just tore the bar out of my hands when I was trying to rotate it. My stand gets anchored to the floor when I work on an engine. the only time it gets the legs unchained is when I have to roll it around. But when I work on an engine a piece pf chain goes over the legs by the wheels at all four corners and is bolted to the concrete. Concrete anchors are cheap. Engines and body parts aren't.

That's a good idea. I use a stand that has a wide foot print. The chains sound even better. Cheap insurance for sure.

I used 6 inch long 3/8 inch wedge style concrete anchors when I did my set-up. They are reasonably cheap and the extra length makes getting the chains on much easier. When I build my shop in Texas I will likely make a new stand that mount to the overhead I-beam for the traveling crane.
