351W performance rebuild?
I plan on blue-printing the engine when I rebuild (if nothing else just for the fun of it). I have built several engines with carbs but never with EFI. Basically I don't have a clue what parts combination to use. (i.e. flat top, dome, or stock pistons; high lift roller cam and lifters, performance heads)
If anybody out there has a good combination please let me know.
1. cam and lifter
2. pistons
3. should I upgrade to a high flow intake and throttle body
4. what heads do you suggest.
Keep in mind I want to save all my sensors and stuff so I can use a performance chip. I'd like to see if I could 400 horses out of this thing.
Thanks
Hi, If you want more power than you need more balance. The most urgent thing when you rebuild the engine is balancing. Check each connecting rod weight and bring them all to on weight so exact as possible. Go ahead with the Pistons, weight them, bring all to the same weight. A good maschine shop sould be able to fine balance the crankshaft. If you have a manual tranny you can loss weight and get power by modifieing the flywheel (lathe).
To the cylinderheads: A good way to get more power is to search a pair of older head, I think the best are build around 1970 with an combustion chamber of 'bout 60 cc. The smaler the chamber so better the power but are the chamber to small you'll have a problem with the gas (knocking). If you have time and the possibility to modify the head it will be great to mesaure each chamber and bring all to the same size.
Here are only a few tips, you can read more in such books like "Hoe to rebuild Ford small Block engines"
