Last night while driving home the 1992 F150 started to run rough while the speedometer swung wildly and than went to zero and the odometer blanked out. It was raining and my wipers slowed way down. I barely got it in the driveway when it stalled out and wouldn't restart. Just dead. I checked the battery and had it charged, but when test driving it, it did the same thing after a few minutes. Any ideas? I thought once the engine was running, you could take the battery out and it would still run fine. I had the alternator replaced last year. Please help.

 

sounds like a short under the dash, as far as taking batt out w/truck running not a very smart move as shorting is a very good possibility and comp problems
