Today was the big day! Went and treated my o'll girl to a set of Heddman elites at $342. Started w/ the drivers side and got that one in no sweat. Started on the pass side, removed the old manifold and as i was mock fitting the header in place i noticed w/ my light held just right that on the #4 exh there was shiny black oooz. It looked wet at first but after further investigation I found it's dry. It really resembles dried black tar. Did I mention this has me scared after only having 5,000 miles on this motor??? I'm gonna try and find pop's digital camera and snap some shots but anyone got any idea what's goin on? Haven't noticed any blue smoke out the exhaust but could I still be burning excess oil on that cylinder?
Don't make any conclusions without hard data. Could be something as simple as a valve stem seal, although I've never heard of rubber repairing it's-self.
The reformulation did reduce the amount of ZDDP slightly, from 1400ppm to 1200ppm, but it still has much more than the oils formulated for gasoline only engines.

Not so fast. It has a little more zinc then some others but not much! Kendall GT-1 20W-50 has 1130ppm of zinc. Here is there web site. Thats all I use from rear ends, trannies, Transfer cases, Engines, Kendall Oil Rocks!!!!
True, and Valvoline Racing oil has the most of any I know of (if you can find it). But Rotella-T (diesel rated), has enough until the next time the federal regs change.

Sheesh talk about highjackin a thread...jk ok well the oil spot in the exh port has become the least of my problems. I've been fighting w/ the pass header since 11 AM EST and getting no where. At one time I had all the bolts in except one and ended up goin in at an angle for about a thread so then i pulled the header off again...and again...and again.... The whole time I was thinking that the header was misaligned during manufacturing b/c the bolt wholes just weren't lining up right!! Then I noticed i had a bump coming out of one of the bolt holes in head. Ok so i got the file out to file it smooth and I filed and filed and filed. Then it hit me, they put helicoils in one of my heads when i took them in. Ok well now i have a partial helicoil coming out of one of the holes. So i guess when the drilled for the helicoils the went off center at some point b/c this header does not want to bolt up. Anyways I'm pissed and takin a break. Its so funny though b/c i had the drivers header on in maybe 10 min's at most.
I checked their web page. It looks like they only have a 20-50, a 10-30, and a straight 50w. This apparently is not street legal, but I've never had the Highway Patrol check my oil.

Yeah, that right side is a bitch. And that is when there are no problems like a (suspected?) helicoil. In my son's F250, we had to loosen the starter moter so that it could droop a little bit. We also had to release the passenger side motor mount and lift the engine a little bit to make room to hook everything up. What a pain in the butt that was!
Sorry about the hijack.

you can always elongate the holes in the header a bit... This is also why I use nuts/bolts in my top 4 holes on both heads.. makes it easier for header reinstall..
