1985 F350 Reliability
I am looking at buying my first truck, and have an opportunity to buy a 1985 F350 dump and plow truck, which is described as being rusty but running well. My question is whether the 1985's were a good, reliable model year for the F350, and if there are any specific issues to the year and model to look for.

The models in the 80s really didnt change much through the years, but the reliability of the truck depends more on the condition it is in, the amount of maintenance done, and how well it was cared for. You should look for obvious wear signs and go from there.

I bought an 84 F250 4x4 that was from Calif. It has a little surface rust underneath but nothing major. It won't take long to wire-wheel it off, wipe it down with thinner, and give it a new coat of paint from a rattle can.
