Please help anyone,
I have a 97 Expy 4.6 with 211K miles. It has front and rear AC/heat.
A few days ago I started getting the smell of hot antifreeze coming through the air vents. The smell gets stronger when I turn on the panel air or the AC. Just yesterday I noticed that the it started leaking anitfreeze from a tube on the firewall. This tube is about 6 inches long and it doesn't seem to be disconnected from anything or broken. It is on the passengers side just above the O2 sensor.
Also, on the drivers side in the rear of the Expy, there is another drain tube that also is leaking antifreeze.
Both tubes seem to be the drains for the AC condensation. I don't have a fogged up windshield or a wet floor so i'm not positive that the heater core is going bad.
If anyone can please help, I would really appreciate it. I've searched this forum for similar issues but haven't found anything close to this.
Thanks bigGraig. I took a look under the dash and I wouldn't even know where to begin. I called a shop and its $650 to fix and it will take 2 days. I can imagine how long it will take me. Thanks again.
If you are in an area that you would never need heat you can bypass the heater core and have the water still circulate through the lines for future re connection, that should cost you no more than $50 to have a shop do.
