Front end noises
When hubs are locked but its still in 2wd (like going from one mud road to the next) i hear what sound like a small piece of tin dragging under the truck. Not awfully loud but its there and only when the hubs are locked.
Shift it into 4x4 when i get offroad and theres a squeak coming from the front end when its under acceleration. I'm thinking ujoint needs grease or replacing, but like I said i dont know much.
Are these hard jobs to do? Any where I can get detailed instructions how to fix these things? How many hours labor would I be looking at to let the shop do it. Thanks!!!
Lock the hubs and try and turn the front driveshaft, it should turn till it catches, then no more after that. So if you see play in your u joint or clucking or anything, it more than likely needs to be replaced.
I don't hear the noise you are talking about, but it kind of sounds like you were describing a loose center pin in the front diff. Once it gets loose, it starts spining, and wearing away/grinding a groove, and it would need to be replace, but check the u joints first.
