Exclamation V10 Shoot out plug

Hello,

I have a 02 F250 with a v10 and the other day it blasted out the number 5 plug. The truck has 96,xxx miles on it and the warranty is over. I took it to Ford and they said even with 1000's of people having the same issue this is not a recall item and it will cost $5,248.00 to replace the head because it can't be repaired. This being my work truck every day I need to get it fixed right away but feel I'm getting taken out by Ford with no dinner first if you know what I mean! I found this guy at www.blownoutsparkplug.com/ and he seem to be highly recommended by people. It cost $4500.00 less to have him do the repair. I was wondering if anyone might have used him? This is one of the best sites out here and I apologize if I mist a forum about this already. Thanks for your help!

Also check out the Timesert repair. That's what alot of guys have used. You can do it yourself for a few hundred bucks if I remember correctly.

As far as that guy your referring to, I think their are a few people on here that have used him, and they seem to be pleased.

If you do a search for timesert or blown spark plug, you'll find lots of info.......

I would do the timesert if my truck spat a plug.
I am curious to whether the plugs were changed at some time earlier.

Thanks for the replies,
It looks like it may never been done. I would try myself I just dont have the time. I hate having somone else do the work but I have deadlines I have to meet. Just can't win.

Smile Save the $5000 spend $250

I will have to agree with the Keensert repair. I work in a maintainence garage and have used the Keensert to repair 2 5.4L heads. It took a couple of hours and they have held up well. Half of the time is rigging up the shop vac to suck up the shavings. the 5.4L has just -2 cyl than the 6.8L.

While you're poking around in there, check the heater core hoses and make sure they aren't leaking down onto that #5 COP.

Do the insert repair. Much cheaper

I posted a while back about my plug blowout and I repaired it myself for $30 with a plug repair kit from auto zone, it is just like the timesert kit except it comes with just 3 or 4 different size inserts, 10k and still going strong.
One thing you need to know with this kit though, the tap it comes with has a 3/4" head on it that needs to be ground down to fit in a spark plug socket so it can fit down into the plug hole.

It took you an hour to rig up a shop vac?!? Not familiar with duct tape?

OOPS I ment Timesert. I've got them in the Keensert drawer 1/8" to 3/4".
As we get older the first thing that goes is our hair. What was that second thing....
!@#%^&*(&^$%^& - - - I was suggesting that the repair was fairly easy ( IMO ) and yes, the EX has a roll of duct tape in the toolbox.
I also work as a Field Maintenance Technician + ASE cert.
