I dont know if theres a drop pitman available for the F-250 but theres the drop drag link and I believe a spacer that goes between the thing the drag link connects to at the axle and the steering knuckle. Some times the drop drag link is refered to as a Chevy or Dodge part. Hydro steering sounds like too much work and money to me but its probably the best way to go if you really abuse your steering.
Yeah I dont know jack about the Hydro steering. It looks really sturdy though. Also really vunerable to overuse I have heard though and your stranded if you blow a line somehow. I was thinking I would have to do like a 4"drop and 2" spacer. I was looking at crossover steering for $375 from Sky Manu. since its local for me. I just want to do some price comparison and elimnate bump steer, but if its $$$$ difference than I can handle a little bump steer. Maybe spend it on a dual stabilizer and still save.
Thanx FordTrucksKickGM
That should be the only option. Full hydro will take the truck off of the street. It is typically used for off-road only.
All other configurations that still use the push pull design are junk at best. Some junk is better than other junk, but still junk. The factory push pull system is just that.
I run a D60 up front with crossover, and 40 inch boggers (not balanced) and no stabilizer at all. The money you are going to spend on stabilizers can be used to buy the crossover.
Compare prices.
Drop pitman arm: almost 100 bucks.
Drop drag link(OMG): 100 bucks (without ends)
Spacer:about 100 bucks.
Stupid stabilizer(s): about 100 bucks.
Doing the crossover once, and not having to worry about steering again: priceless!
Do crossover and don't look back. I have the sky high steer arms on my truck and love them. I have 40s with no stabalizer and it steers great. If you go with the sky stuff, have them make the drag link also, it was really cheap, and they put the 1 ton chevy tre in one end and the smaller ford tre in the other so it would work with the 3/4 ton pitman arm. Your truck should already have a flat top knuckle on the pass side and I'm pretty sure sky can mill and tap it for you. I've driven a couple of trucks with the s shaped drop drag link and spacer blocks and they all drive pretty crappy.
How did you go about it. Sky is actually a 1-2hr drive away for me so I will drive my parts down and pick them up. I checked out their website and called in. Did you just strip it like it says on the website and they do the work. Or is it extra and something I could have done locally. Also do you know anyone with the high steer system and what is involved in that?
The high steer system only requires the installation of another arm on the driver side, and running the tie rod over the springs. Decide which way you want to go before you buy the pass side arm. The high steer has two sets of holes for the TRE's
Thats what solidrunner was saying right? Its not my daily driver. I really want to spoil this truck and do everytinhg correct. Does anyone have pictures? If I could see it it would click like fried solenoid.
This crossover stuff sounds interesting. Anyone got pics of their setup? Is this mostly for hardcore off-road stuff or does it improve street handling too?
Check out my Gallery. I also have a 78 F250 4x4 with a 6" Skyjacker, 3" body lift, Crossover steering and running on 35" BFG's. Drives and handles like a dream now. Absolutely no bumpsteer and tracks beautiful.
