I had an Add A Leaf installed a couple months ago and now one side is starting to make some noise. I tried tightening the u-bolts and that didn't work. I can tell where they put grease in between some of the leafs. I can't bring it back to them because it was done in Louisville and I live in Nashville. Plus, I am sure I can figure it out. Anyone have any ideas?
my add a leaf was squeaking and i sprayed some grease in between the add a leaf and the factory leafs. it took almost all of it away. it turns out my add a leaf was rubbing on the bracket that holds the factory leafs together and was causing noise. i have read that you can jam some small wood shims or high strength corkboard in between to get rid of it although i havent tried that yet. i figured when my squeak comes back then i will try putting something in between
I tried spraying a bunch of penetrating lube in between them and it didn't work. Looks like they put something in between some of them like a hard plastic or something.
i used white lithium grease if i remember correctly and it worked well. i think those pads are actually to prevent squeaks. from what i have read of other people doing is to jam a screwdriver in between the leafs so you can get a bit of space then insert a piece of corkboard or wood shim and i have read that has worked for some..
Well I had it installed, but I noticed some grease seeping out at some spots. I just used a penetrating lube when I tried to fix it. Why is white lithium better?
Basically, it is a superior grease that repels water amazingly, is made specifically for high load, high stress situations, and contains oxidation and corrosion inhibitors.
Update. I cured my squeak today. I pried apart the leafs with a screwdriver and sprayed some white lithium grease in between and it stopped squeaking. I guess the real test is how long it will last. If it comes back I don't think it would be hard to jamb something in there to prevent it in the future. Thanks for everyones help.
