Anti-Squeak Webbing

I am somewhat confused on exactly how to use the anti-squeak webbing I purchased for my "50 F-1 rebuild. My questions are:

1. The webbing is very stiff so how do I get it to contour around the bends of my fenders? Do I cut "V's" where the bolts go?

2. How do I fasten it prior to installation? For instance between the bed and the fenders. Do I used contact cement or something similar? Do I used this between any metals surfaces that do not have a special seal or gasket?

Thanks in advance for any knowledge shared.

The "webbing" is usually referred to as fender welting. It was not a stock item, but is liked by many as an anti-squeek material. Although I have run without it for some time and never heard a squeek. Mostly, it is great at covering up a lousy fit between mating panels, like fenders to bed or cab.

Yes, you'll need to cut some darts around the bolt holes and in tight corners where the welting has to turn sharply.

A cement of some kind makes the job a lot easier. Some folks have grim stories of trying to stuff it into the gap with the bolts loosened, but that usually winds up being a sloppy job. I prefer to apply it to the fender off the truck, then install the fender. You can use weatherstrip adhesive, contact cement or RTV. Your choice.

I think it looks nice between the fenders and the bed or cowl. I think it looks stupid between the gravel pan and the fenders. But, what do I know.

Randy Jack,

Are you referring to the welting with the bead at the top or webbing. Mine is made of a fabric material and it one inch wide and plain on both sides. I thought this was standard on the F-1's

Yes, cut V notches in the webbing to make it conform to the contuoures.

I didn't use anything to stick the webbing to the fenders. I used a material punch (as with a hammer!) to punch holes in the webbing then stuck the webbing onto the protudeing bolts. Then just bolted it together

My bad. I was talking about the fender welting with the bead. I guess you are talking about the flat stuff on F1 inner fenders-to-cab.

Never mind...
