Ok here it is planing on buying a new 302 boring it .30 over to a 306, summit makes a 306 kit that comes with a Ford Racing cast crank, summit stage I connecting rods, Keith Black pistons, sealed power piston rings, clevite bearings, melling high volume oil pump and fel pro gaskets. For heads and intake I'm looking into trick flow. This brings us to the questions, the stock 302 truck head has the throttle body in the front and the trick flow is on the side, will my trottle cable reach??? The other question to this is would I be better off with a stock 302 intake ported and polished instead of a trick flow?????? Also i know i'm jumping the gun but headers, can I go full headers or do I have to go shorties????? Thanks guys....
What are you building this for? If it's a heavy 4wd with big tires, you need to think torque. This would mean 351w or stroker kit for the 302. The mods you want to do to the 302 will raise the rpm at which horespower is made. If you have a lighter weight 2wd truck, and change the rear gear a little bit, then your 302 will do ok. Sounds like you want to turn it into a mustang motor, which is a whole lot lighter car, with a deep 1st gear 5 speed.
Sorry should have old you folks whats going on, first of all I have a 93 F-150 4x4 obviously 302 and it get 9mpg on 31s. It has no ***** up hills and no real get up and go... I'm getting pretty frustrated, no one on either #####.com or customtruckshowcase.com has been able to give me advice on how to remedy the situation, about half a dozen people have told me its time to rebuild, so I don't know what to do.
What gear ratio do you have? If you still have the stock ratio in the diffs. with the taller tires you will lose bottom end. Putting taller tires on essentially gives you a "taller" ratio and will affect your pulling power. If you still have the stock rears change your gears first, you will be amazed at the difference.
