Whooping Noise???

Whooping Noise???
My wife drives an 06 Explorer. Virtually everytime we drive it, we hear a whooping noise that sounds like its coming from the back of the truck. Sometimes we hear it upon acceleration and sometimes breaking. There doesn't seem to be any pattern. Has anyone else heard of this?
