I have a 2004 F250 with 85,000 miles. Just the other day I noticed that my truck started making this grinding noise and I thought it was just the pavement. Now I have heard it another 2 or 3 times in past couple days. Anyone have any ideas? It almost sounds the brake pads gringing but I dont think that is what it is. Thanks

More than likely the front wheel bearings. They are a sealed non-serviceable unit. You can replace with factory sealed units or upgrade to the "Dyna-Trac Freespin" kit www.dynatrac.com/products_freespin_ford.html
To check and see if it your front hubs, lock the hubs without putting the truck into 4 wheel drive by turning the hubs. Now drive the truck and see if you can hear the grinding. If not, it's probably the hubs causing your problem. (As long as you don't put it in 4H or 4L you won't hurt anything)
It is a fairly common failure for these trucks. As blackhat620 stated, the hubs are not serviceable, they are replaced as a unit. The Dynatrac kit he mentioned corrects that problem but isn't cheap.
If it only happens when you apply the brakes, then it is probably the brakes.
It could also be the carrier bearing (if you have a long wheelbase truck) or even U-joints.
Okay now that it has been doing it a little more, it sounds more like something is loose. When i hit a bump it sounds like something is shaking like metal touching metal for anywhere from 1 to 10 second intervals, then when i hit another bump or change lanes it stops. Any help from anyone that has had any problems like this would help me to know where to start looking under the truck for something loose. Thanks
