over the weekend i installed a biger cam,and a fresh brand new carb.same carb just a new one. motors the 429 in my sig 10;1 d2oe-ab heads. cams a .564 intake and .582 ex with a split duration 276 in 284 ex and all matching springs, threw the stealth back on and fire it up. i run it for 20 min at 2000-2500 to run in the cam.then change oil and took it down to the nieghbors(about a mile round trip) still nothing wrong runs great. well this afternoon i took it to the bar to get food still run good onthe way out it started just fine backed up and when i put it from revers to low(manual shift c-6)it poped back threw the carb and died.ok it started up and run fine for about 300 yds and started popin again, barly made it home.ive swaped feul pumps, coils(noticed my new one was arcin)cap and rotor, ingintion boxes pretty much every thing exept carb and dist.if the power valve blew out that shouldnt make it mis real bad should it? pop back threw carb not ilde. im up for any ideas. oh i even checked the feul psi and its around 7-8 lbs at the carb, even the timing didnt move. no bent pushrods ect.havnt beet on it yet either
I thought all the newer Holley's had some sort of blockoff that eliminated blowing the PV on backfires? I could be wrong...but I know there used to be a kit you could put in them. I've never blown a PV, so don't know what the symptoms would be.
I'd look into the ignition system for sure though to see why it's firing at the wrong time.
im startin to think i have 3 bad coils and 3 bad ignition boxes.its definatly in ignition no spark. i thought mabe the previous owner might have messed up the wirin(its acted up in the past)so i just rewired it the rite way and still nothin.so i know the dist is good and the wiring is rite that should only leave coil and ignition box rite? i have power comin to the coil and the box
okfinaly got the new wiring all solerd up and heat shrunk and it fired up thats a good thing. but the bad news is it still pops and mises the vacum gauge goes nuts from 5lbs all the way up to 15lbs would an intake gasket not sealed rite do this?and if so why would it just go to leaking after half hour run time?
My FE in The 66 went through 3 cams at brake in. 2 wiped out lobes and the last broke. WTF I say and call a speed shop that recommended this cam for this build. He told me to remove one of the dual springs from every valve. Than run it with no load at 1800/2000 for 45 minuets after warm up. Than reinstall all springs and go for it. That was 15 years ago and still running today. No I don't remember what the cam is. Just my .02 cents
Check you push rods and see if one bent due to the increased spring pressure. I put Manley hardened steel push rods in mine when I built it. You might want to run back through the rocker adjustments and make sure youdont have one that has tightened itself down. What rockers are you running and do you have locking nuts on them?
any one know how an intake gasket can get riped along the bottom of the ports? thats what it was. it was even a fel-pro gasket.never seen that one before
Only seen similar once on a 351W that had the heads and deck shaved. The intake was then to tight and having to force it down with the bolts it got cut and smashed the gaskets. Once the intake was milled to match it worked fine.
was it the performance fel-pro or the standard replacement gaskets?i've had problems with the performance ones and come to find out they aren't intended for long term (example: street ) use.i put mr gasket ones on from now on.
