I was wondering if anyone here has removed their EPBV for the bigger outlet and lived in a cold climate? I live in pa (somerset county) about 60 miles east of pittsburgh its not uncommon to have 10 deg nights or colder for nights on end. I was wondering if i removed this how much would it change cold start warm ups? I am rebuilding my turbo so now would be the best time to change the outlet and remove or plug the pedestal so that i would not have to worry about it leaking.
thoughts?
thanks
I know several that have who live in colder climates, some up near you in WV and MD. I have put mine on a manual switch, and had a cold winter this past year with temps down to 0 degrees for several nights. This year, I actually never even switched it on and didn't have any problems.
What you might notice is a bit longer warmup times, particularly when just driving around town. A couple things you can do to counter that is plug the truck in overnight and to run a cold front grille - or make your own out of some cardboard to partially block the radiator.
Overall, I don't think you'll have any problems removing it though.
I plan on gutting it the old fashion way, but without a larger exhaust housing. I live in MI and the first time i heard that stupid valve closed, i mean i was pulling out of my driveway heard it and stopped jumped out and unplugged it. It was unplugged all winter it pissed me off. So your fine to get that POS out of the exhaust.
Id say go for it and dont look back, the only time I could see this really helping is if you wanted to start your truck after letting it sit overnight and letting it idle for a while to warm it up. But no matter how long I let mine idle in cold temps it never gets warm, even with the EBPV. I got rid of mine and I live in New England.
Ok looks like it will be hitting the road. I just wanted to make sure the problems that i will be losing won't cause anymore problems. To me i would rather not have a chance of the EBPV actuator leaking and if it won't really change warmups at idle then its worth me taking off. I'll just cover the grille.
thanks for the help
that was going to be my next question.... I thought i had read a post about gutting and pluging the EBPV pedestal? Was it somthing about removing the actuator stuff and drill/tap where the actuator rod was? I am trying to do this and save money but i want to prevent other issues that involve removal of the PITA turbo. If i wouldnt be tight on funds now i would just go for the BB turbo but funding isn't allowing that
up where i am it gets 20 to 40 below alot..i dont turn on the EBPV at all in the AM do to the 5" exhaust..my EBPV is now a exhaust brake..just takes a little longer to warm up..
Ok here is what im doing exactly to my stock turbo to get rid of the b.s. that in there. The stupid *** thing leaks oil now, so its going bye bye. Doing the entire thing is less than 20$. https://www.ford-trucks.com/wiki2/ti...p?articleId=21
Is shows how to gut it out of the turbo and the pedistal.
