I'm going to be pulling my cab and blasting my frame. I have a 79 shortbed. Anyone know what the cab weighs and how many people to get it off? I was thinking of putting it on jackstands to cut out the floorboards, corners and other metal. I've seen some on ebay for $20 a piece and wondered if that's good stuff. Also My shortbed needs a new floor but LMC only carries the longbed. Any idea where I can get one? Long road ahead here...
I used four guys to remove mine. One at each corner. It just makes it easier to get it over the wheels and/or motor/trany. Before you take it off the truck. Weld in some temporary supports from solid sections of the cab to parts near where you are going to cut/replace parts. This will ensure that your repairs are as close to factory spec and will make fitting th new parts much easier and accurate. If you don't, you run the risk of welding in your new parts with the cab tweaked and not having things line-up correctly when you put it back together. Good luck !
Recommend another others than LMC? I need a floor for my bed and some outside metal for it as well (fender well). Need some for the cab too. Who is highly recommended?
id recomend mikes truck salvage. i just did a whole new cab and fenders from him for the '67. when i did myne i used a tractor with forks to get it off and a log loder to place the new cab but i would think that four heathy guys could do it. mike is a good honest guy. parts are good if you get them from him.
you can get a hold of him at www.mtsalvage.com or mikestrucks@aol.com
good luck
I removed the shifter plate on my 76, used a couple of 2x6 with eye-bolt in the opening for the shifter and lifted it off the frame by myself using a cherry picker. Then I placed it on a 2x 6 frame I made for it. The frame has casters so I can move it around.
You might also want to check with Mar-k for bed parts. I believe it is www.mar-k.com

Reason: Additional info
Mike's Truck Salvage is one of the best places I have ever done business with. Now that the cat is out of the bag and he is listed as a sponser of this site, I might as well put my two cents in too. I just hate to lose any chance of picking up all those good southern rust free Ford parts delivered to my garage by FedEx. If you check out his site, don't be deceived by the rust color of a lot of the parts as I was. After I cleaned that red clay off the undercoating of the parts ( crossmembers, spring hangers, etc.) there was that showroom shine. I also got some stepbumper brackets, inner rocker panels, cabcorner, front body mount, axle stops with bumpers.
Re: LMC. I can't speak for the quality of their merchandise, as I never buy fro them. THe reason I never buy from them is that I have always been able to find the same items elsewhere for 1/3 of the price.
LMC is not a sponser of this site is probably the best reason. I don't know about the quality of their stuff but they do have a good catalog. Their prices are up there too.
I have bought before from LMC. (before i found this website) and well there quality of anythign stinks. there chrome bumpers rust within 6 months and well yeah nothing of theres lasts any lenght of time.
well i have bought from them and there stuff seems to be ok, i did however get the wrong part sent to me, but they happily sent me the missing part at no cost and got to keep the other part so, its there loss. If anyone does know of some better priced parts let me know im trying not to put that much in to my truck as i have all the time i need but not the money. Also i took the cab off my truck a week ago we used our skid steer made it easy to lift it over the shifter, so i just need to take out the engine and tranny to do the blasting and pinting.
CLR f150. Check with your dealer. If you are a member of a car club in your area affiliated with your dealer, even better. Many parts for these truck were used in later years as well, meaning that they still stock many parts. Auto krafters, and Jeff's Bronco Graveyard also have alot of parts available. It always helps to have a couple of catalogs on your shelf to check prices against. Know what is availble at what price, then you can shop around. Good deals can even be found on Ebay, but you have to know the value before you bid. Once I found 2 front fenders, 2 doors, and 1 rear fender (all fiberglass from US Body) from $600 on Ebay.
