Has anyone every used the aftermarket remote start systems from Ford? They are kind of a big thing here in Ak. I have used other makes and models but thought about trying Fords version. Any ideas on price or range would be great! Thanks, EricL
I got one on E-bay, and ended up getting a new one from an installer anyway. They said they could install it, but by the time they got all the stuff for it, it would be a pretty expensive install. I got a brand new one, and they gave me almost all my money for what I paid for the OEM model. It'll work, but they're a pain to install.
I have one and have been really happy with it. I think the important thing is to get the mid to high level unit. At the time, the ford unit was the only system that did not need a mess of external relays. Mine is a box just like an alarm, a dozen or so wires and a keyfob. I already had keyless entry, which cut down on the work.
Expect to pay $150-250 for the unit, installation is a bear on any make, so plan to pay another $200 for install regardless of manufacture.
That sounds pretty good actually. The one I had installed on my last truck was over $600 at a local aftermarket shop. Think maybe I got screwed Alaska style!! EricL
I had a Ford gold system installed through my dealer... the dealer actually ordered the unit BUT they had an install guy that they scheduled to do the install...Supposedly talking to the guy he did all of the installed for the cincy area..
Anyway my truck DID NOT have keyless entry...but it did have power everything... Took the guy a few hours...works perfect..Keyless, autostart, alarm.. I was out the door for like $420.. install included..
06 F350 Lariat CC keyless entry. Added remote start from dealer. Works like a charm. Range is about 500 feet. I can be in my office and hit my remote start - and walk out 5 minutes later and crawl in a cool truck (meaning the AC has been on for five minutes). It makes a huge difference when the temps hit 115 like they do here in AZ in the summer.
It also works as a turbo timer. I get out of the truck after towing and hit the remote start. The truck starts after 30 seconds (it's a diesel) and runs for 10 minutes and shuts down.
I got a Ford system on ebay. Under $90.00, I think the person that bought it looked at the install and punted. There were approximately 20+ wire conections to make. Clear instruction (got mine on line, whole manual for all lines was 368 pages!) Took the better part of a weekend, but I solder all my connections. The remote start actually included a keyless entry, so now I have two seperate systems (had factory installed keyless). I can activate the starter from my third floor office through the window far across the parking lot.
