My 79 F100 has a step bumper in the rear. I'd like to swap to a non step-bumper style rear bumper. I see them forsale all over the place new.. Does anyone sell brackets for this, or am I better off digging around for a set in a junkyard?
You would probably be better off trying to find a set of brackets in a junkyard. I don't recall seeing the brackets for the non-step bumper in any parts catalogs such as LMC, Auto Krafters, JC Whitney, etc.

1973/79 F100/350's use the same NON step bumper brackets.

These brackets are flimsy, to say the least, so finding a set used can be a challenge. But used is prolly the only way you'll find them, unless FTE sponsors: Dennis Carpenter, Blue Oval Truck Parts or NPD has them. They are obsolete from Ford.
Yes, those should be the right brackets. My '79 has a non-step bumper(like the one in the picture), and I'm pretty sure that those are the kind of brackets that it uses.
2x NumberDummy on finding brackets. It's a treaure hunt for sure!!
Back in the day, rear bumpers were an option and most opted for a step (AKA "dock") bumper for towing. I wanted to go back to factory bumper since I found a bolt-on 2-inch receiver hitch off a Bronco that fit perfectly. Plus, my dock bumper was dented, twisted, and rusted.
After hunting many yards to no avail, I resorted to using an early 80s Bronco rear bumper but had to modify the brackets so it would bolt up correctly. The brackets were about 1.5 inches too short and the holes didn't line up to the existing holes on my frame. Oh yeah, Ford went to larger metric bumper bolts in the early 80s. I recall the nut is 18mm.
Remember to grab or find the factory license plate lights cuz I had a hard time finding those too. The housing (with pig tail) is held on with a large threaded sheetmetal nut and then capped with a light cover. You know, the ones with the small oval Ford logo embossed on them. Anyhow, they were a pain to find but I managed to assemble a pair from four different 'yards.
On my to-do list is to fabricate some outer braces for the bumpers. I don't know if anyone cares or has noticed, but the ends of the front and rear bumpers are hanging out there with no triangulation for rigidity.
