Hi all, I need a bendix drive or possibly a whole new starter w/drive for my 62 f100 223 six cyl. three on the tree. I have 2 of them, one is completely trashed the other just needs the drive rebuilt. On the rebuildable unit, the bushing is sticking out of the starter about 1/2" and is a little chewed up on the end. Is this bushing supposed to be flush with the body of the starter. If so, can I clean up the end with a dremel and gently tap back into place with a pipe of right diameter? Thanks
Thank you again. I don't where you pull theses numbers up from, but I sure am grateful. I ordered the drive from Napa yesterday and will pick up today. I'll use the front plate from original starter , clean up donor starter shaft and install new drive. Hopefully it'll turn over. One more question. I pulled an electric fuel pump off and would like to convert to mechanical for the '62 223 six. Do you know the part no. and what it interchanges with? I have a 292 v8 with a good pump but it's on the left front of the motor and probably won't work. Thanks, Michael
Thanks NumberDummy. I rebuilt the original starter with parts from a donor and a new clutch style drive. Got the mechanical fuel pump but may try to rebuils the electric bellows pump if I can find diaphragm. Quick note; I found out that too much spark advance can ruin the starter drive with compression kick back. snaps the gear teeth off.
