Greasing Joints

Anyone got a firm list of all the greased joints on our truck? Next oil change I'm getting me a grease gun and doin it myself since I change the oil anyways.. Figure with the Fumoto its a tad slower in draining so it gives me a reason to lube myself..

Also what kinda grease does everyone recommend? I assume the good ol' Tubes of Valvoline Grease would be ok? Also, whats the method for greasing? In the military they use to tell us to lube them til you see it come out a bit.. Course if anything broke the mechs just fixed it.. But i don't want that being the case on my truck lol..

"Georgetown Texas" eh? I went to school there about 30 years ago!

Re greasing, on heavy equipment if you keep it greased regularly anything more than two pumps on the handle - you're wasting grease and the excess will catch dirt.

You'll probably hear a bunch of opinions re which brand to use. Valvoline makes great products and their synthetic oil is one of the best.

Storm, on my '06 the only zerk fittings are on the two front wheel drive yokes. In free wheeling mode you can spin the yoke until you see the fitting. The problem has been getting the fitting to take grease. Some have used a needle attachment to the grease gun to get it in the fitting. I have tried to grease mine but it doesn't go in the fitting with the normal snap on fitting.

Good luck.

Red face Well, Un . . .

Like I said, it is hard to get the grease in those two fitting so they just charge you so they don't have to do it. . .

I can't find ANY grease fittings on my '08 2 wheel drive, they are all sealed. I crawled under there when I first got the truck. when I change the oil I will check again.

On my 02' (which I think is very similar to the 04 in your sig) I have a factory zerk on each tie rod end and each drag link end. That's about all I could find.

I also have zerks on my rear u-joints (new spicers) and my front ball joints (new MOOGs) but those were added when I went aftermarket on those items.

I use Lucas "Red n Tacky". That's all we use at the shop. I've been told the stickier it is the longer it'll stay. I usually pump it in untill a little of the old comes out, then wipe it off.

There are several on my 2003 4wd, but I would like to know how many if anyone knows.
Hate to miss any.

Thanks,

My truck has four grease fittings. I just give each one a single pump from the grease gun using regular old grease (can't recall brand right now) each oil change.
